Steven S. Sanford, DDS

Meet Dr. Steven Sanford

dr steven sanfordSteven S. Sanford, DDS has been practicing dentistry in Galt, CA since 2001, but his history in the area started almost 30 years earlier.

“Dr. Steve,” as his Assistants call him, moved here with his family in 1971 when Steve’s father, Kenneth B. Sanford, DDS, purchased a local practice and opened Galt Dental Care.

Always one to take the road less traveled, Steve’s path to Galt literally took him around the world. Beginning in high school, Steve participated in mission projects, building schools and churches in Central and South America. Later, while attending Loma Linda University (LLU), Steve supported a free ADRA dental clinic in Nepal. There, some patients walked several days to get a tooth pulled, before walking home.

After graduating from LLU School of Dentistry in 1997, Steve served four years in the U.S. Navy. Lieutenant Steven Sanford was initially stationed at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA where he completed a one-year residency focussed on dental care for medically-compromised patients as well as advanced dental surgery. Steve was stationed on the USS Gunston Hall (Little Creek, VA). Steve’s deployments included supporting the Kosovo Campaign, providing aid to earthquake victims in Turkey and stops in Israel, Spain and Italy.

After his honorable discharge in 2001, Dr. Steve moved back to California and joined his father’s practice. In addition to General Dentistry, Steve and Ken Sanford formed “Sanford and Son’s Dental Forensics,” providing identification services (Odontology) to San Joaquin County for nearly a decade.

Dr. Steve took full ownership of Galt Dental Care in 2010.

Outside the office, Steve enjoys riding dirt bikes, skiing, traveling, paddle boarding (SUP), white water rafting, camping and hiking. He has completed multiple editions of Tough Mudder and recently entered Spartan Races.

For more than 45 years, Galt Dental Care has worked on the premise that “Our Patients are Our Friends.” That’s just as true today as it was in 1971. Next time you’re in, take a moment to tell Dr. Steve about your latest adventure and he’ll probably tell you a little about his.
